Scholarships Applications
Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated is a professional nursing organization founded in 1932. The Lambda Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. based in Detroit, Michigan is guided by the motto, “Service for Humanity”. Each year Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. presents scholarships to nursing students exhibiting exemplary scholastic talents and dedication to community service.
Local Aliene Carrington Ewell Scholarship
Jazzsma Caldwell Memorial Scholarship
The Aliene Carrington Ewell Scholarship Award is awarded to a nursing student (GPA 3.0 or higher) in the process of obtaining an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing who completed the first semester of their prospective nursing program and is in good standing with the University. Applicants must NOT be in the last semester of their nursing program to receive the award.
The application due date is January 10, 2025.
The following documents are required for submission with the application:

A current unofficial transcript (last two semesters)

Official Financial Statement from student accounts reflecting payment history, tuition/fees, and current balance (documentation must be on an official School/University letterhead and requires signature from financial advisor).

Financial Aid Award Letter reflecting scholarships/grants (current academic year and on official school letterhead and signed)
-
Letter of reference from instructor and/or an administrator (letter must be on official School/University letterhead).

Personal biographical statement (no more than two double spaced pages describing yourself, the reason you are deserving or need this scholarship, current memberships and leadership positions, extracurricular activities, goals).
The Jazzsma Caldwell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a nursing student (GPA 3.0 or higher) in the process of obtaining an associate, baccalaureate, masters, PhD or doctorate nursing degree who completed the first semester of their prospective nursing program and is in good standing with the University. Applicants must NOT be in the last semester of their nursing program to receive the award.
The application due date is April 1, 2025.

Della Raney Jackson Scholarship
MWR Ella Rose Carter Nursing Scholarship
The Della Raney Jackson Scholarship honors the first Afro-American nurse who was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the Army nurse corps during WW 11 in 1941. She retired as a Major in 1978.
This scholarship was established by Lambda Chi Chapter to assist nursing students to pursue studies for a nursing career. Scholarships will be awarded to applicants with the greatest demonstrated financial need, leadership potential and interest in nursing.
The application due date is April 1, 2025.
CRITERIA:
• Be enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and pursuing a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree.
• Grade Point Average (GPA) acceptable to the school (2.5 or higher).
• Demonstrate interest in nursing, financial need, and leadership potential.

Applicants must NOT be in the last semester of their nursing program to receive the award.
POLICY STATEMENTS:
Applications may be accepted from diploma, associate or bachelor’s degree programs. Primary consideration will be given to students beginning their initial nursing education.

All applicants are considered equally regardless of gender, race, creed, color or national origin.

The application form must be obtained from the chair of the Scholarship Committee.

This scholarship will be awarded at the annual Lambda Chi Chapter Scholarship Luncheon.

Scholarship award recipients need not be present when the awards are announced.

Scholarship funds are paid directly to the school, college/university.

Applicants who have been awarded a scholarship may reapply in subsequent years.
The Ella Rose Scholarship is awarded to a nursing student (GPA 3.0 or higher) in the process of obtaining an associate, baccalaureate, masters, PhD or doctorate nursing degree who completed the first semester of their prospective nursing program and is in good standing with the University.

All applicants are considered regardless of age, national origin, color, sexual orientation, disability, gender, gender identity, or religious affiliation.

The student must be pursuing an Associate Degree, Baccalaureate, Masters, PhD or doctorate nursing degree, currently enrolled in an accredited university/college school of nursing.

The college or university must be located within the Middlewest Region but not limited to: Studies via the internet and Independent external course studies
-
The Applicant home address is within the Middlewest Region.

The Applicant must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) equal to 3.0/4.0 and above or equivalent reflected in transcript in nursing courses.

The Applicant must have taken a nursing class or presently in a nursing class reflected by the official transcript. The applicant is considered a full-time student.

An audio essay done by the student with emphasis on nursing interest, career goals, community involvement and passport photo.

The students in their last semester and/or quarter of their program are ineligible for scholarship.
-
Former recipients may reapply through the chapter recommendation.
The application due date is February 14, 2025.
